The Jacquie Hirsch for A.L.L. Foundation

Dear Mrs. Sharon Mr. Torey and TJ, In October and November I wrote a paper and entered it in a PTA contest. The theme of the contest was WOW. I chose to write about Jacquie. The title was What an Outstanding Woman.  So far, I have won at the school and regional levels.  I still have a chance at the state, and hopefully, the national level, to win. I did this about Jacquie because she did wonderful things for everyone and this is a surprise for you, TJ, and Mr. Torey.

What an Outstanding Woman!

Once upon a time there was a sweet baby named Jacquie Elizabeth Hirsh born on May 30, 1985. Her big brother TJ and her dad Torey and her mom Sharon loved her so much. Once Jacquie got older she and her brother TJ did gymnastics at Stumpfs. Wow! Soon Jacquie’s dad made his own gymnastics center with the help from Jacquie, TJ, and Jacquie’s Mom. They went to the gym a lot to play. Everyday Jacquie watched her mom and dad teach gymnastics. Soon Jacquie realized how to be kind and nice to everyone she met. Wow! Jacquie always smiled and made everyone happy. Wow! When Jacquie got older she had exciting things to do. Like her mom and dad, Jacquie loved to teach. Jacquie taught swimming lessons, and gymnastics. Wow! Jacquie worked hard at everything she did. She got good grades and swam on her high school and college swim teams. Jacquie was in a sorority and had lots of friends. She always made the room light up with her smile.

In May of 2007 Jacquie graduated from Geneseo when she was 22 years old. Wow! Jacquie also loved Tinkerbell, just like my little sister does. Wow! One day, when Jacquie was student teaching, her eye became blurry. She went to the doctor. Her sickness was called Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (A.L.L.).She had to stay in the hospital. Wow! Jacquie also had to have a bone marrow transplant. We had a big bone marrow drive for her. So many people came out to help her. Wow!

Jacquie went to a hospital in New York City and lived there for over 2 ½ months. Jacquie made everyone at the hospital feel better by smiling and being positive. Wow! When there were other kids who had cancer, Jacquie visited them and made them smile. Wow! Everyday we read how Jacquie was doing, on her website, because we care about her. Her brother and mom wrote almost everyday. Wow! When we thought she was coming home to be all better, the doctor told Mr. Torey and Mrs. Sharon the leukemia came back. Wow! We all cried a lot. She came home to a new hospital last summer. My mom, dad, brother and I rode our bikes with her Jacquie for ALL team, to raise money for cancer research. Our shirts had Jacquie’s picture on the back. I rode eight miles.

In the summer Jacquie got very, very sick. She had another bone marrow transplant but it did not work. Wow! Her website says "Unfortunately, on September 6th, 2008, with her family at her side, the effects of Graft vs. Host Disease proved to be too much for her body to handle, and Jacquie peacefully drifted off to sleep with a smile on her face. Her smile, one that thousands of people knew and loved meant that she was at peace.”

My mom and dad went to the funeral home to say goodbye. So many people were there, they waited two hours just to hug Mr. Torey, Mrs. Sharon and TJ, Wow! Jacquie is an Outstanding Woman. We still read her website all of the time. A lot of people are raising money for Leukemia, just because of Jacquie. Her mom, dad and brother promise to keep her alive in a lot of different ways. Jacquie helped a lot of people, made them smile, and that is how I want to live my life. I miss Jacquie and I am sad for her family, but what she is doing now through the Jacquie for All Foundation, will help so many people. Wow!!! We all Believed in her, in her fight, but now we all Believe her life will help save other people. Good thing Tinkerbell always Believed.

** Madison was awarded a NYS Merit award for her entry in the Reflections contest. She was one of four in NYS to get a Merit award in her category. One little girl went onto the National Level. We are proud of Madison. She is very excited. It was two months of work for her to write this. It was time consuming, but easy in a way. When you write about someone as amazing as Jacquie, it is easy. Madison didn't have to be creative or original. She just wrote about an Outstanding Woman.

Cause' when push

You might bend,
