I have some exciting news to share! I am training for the Disney World Half Marathon as a member of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Team in Training program. I will be running in memory of Jacquie Hirsch who fought the battle with Leukemia for nearly a year.
Jacquie was diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (ALL), in September 28, 2007. Jacquie was cancer free for 89 days, but her battle was not over. When she got the news that her leukemia was back, on May 21, 2008, she continued to fight so hard and for so long that her body was having trouble keeping up with all of the chemo, medications, radiation, shots, pills and everything else that she was forced to endure. She was not the same Jacquie that we all knew and loved. It was very difficult, but the decision for Jacquie not to have to struggle anymore was confirmed by her as she lay comfortably in bed with eyes half open and a smile on her beautiful face. At that point, on September 6, 2008 they knew that Jacquie was at peace.
While Jacquie was fighting for her life on that very day, I was running my first 5k race. After hearing the news of Jacquie’s passing, I knew I had to do something in her memory and honor the dedicated Hirsch family. I decided to join Team in Training through the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Jacquie will be with us every second of every day because she taught us how we should be living that day, to its fullest. She will be with me in spirit as I train for and run a half marathon in her memory. I am running with the TEAM to raise awareness of Leukemia, Lymphoma, and other blood cancers, and also to raise money for this organization that has meant so much to the Hirsch family. Jacquie was always up for a challenge and I am up for this challenge.
I ask that you donate in memory of this amazing young woman, who is an inspiration to all who will read or hear her story. I ask that you donate in honor of her family who are grieving the loss of this incredible daughter and sister. No donation is too small and all are tax deductible. You can make your donation online by clicking here or write a check to LLS and mail it to me at
I want to thank you in advance for your love and support! This is an exciting time and I hope you choose to support me in my efforts to make a difference. I will be thinking of each of you as I cross the finish line and STAND for Jax on January 10, 2009.
Believe,
Sarah A Lintz
